Where in Arkansas Can You Have a Pet Pig?

Arkansas State law does not ban domestic pigs from being kept as pets. However, your city may have its own rules regarding pig ownership in urban areas. Pigs are generally allowed in agricultural zones. In residential zones, however, pig ownership is usually restricted or not allowed. Therefore, if you live in a residential area, be sure to check your city's animal ordinance before getting a pet pig. Meanwhile, here are six Arkansas cities that allow pet pigs within city limits.

Little Rock, AR

In Little Rock, AR, you may own a pet Vietnamese pot-bellied pig as long as you don't keep it within 300 feet of any residence other than yours. By ordinance, only one Vietnamese pot-bellied pig is allowed per household.

North Little Rock, AR

Under North Little Rock's municipal code, Vietnamese pot-bellied pigs are considered domestic pets. As such, pot-bellied pigs are subject to all laws that may apply to pets in the city. These include but are not limited to, restrictions on running at large, clean-up requirements, nuisance laws, leash laws, and sanitation requirements. The city code does not impose a specific limit on the number of pot-bellied pigs you may own.

Hot Springs, AR

In Hot Springs, AR, you need a minimum of one acre of land to own a pet pig. If you intend to keep your pig in a pen or enclosure, it must not be less than 100 feet from any residence other than yours. By ordinance, a maximum of two pigs is allowed per acre of land.

Sherwood, AR

You may keep a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig as a household pet in Sherwood, Arkansas. Per the City's Animal Care & Control Ordinance, you may keep no more than two pot-bellied pigs as pets. Except for the number of animals, pot-bellied pigs are subject to all sections of the Animal Care & Control Ordinance.

Siloam Springs, AR

Pet pigs are legal in Siloam Springs, AR, but a minimum of one acre of land is required to own one. The City Code requires all pens or enclosures where pigs are kept to be built not less than 100 feet from any residence other than the pig owner's. In addition, the premises where pigs are kept are required to be maintained in a clean and sanitary condition at all times. You must not permit your pig to run at large or range off of your premises within the city.

Hope, AR

The City of Hope's Animal Control Ordinance permits residents to keep pot-bellied pigs as pets within the city limits. The ordinance does not restrict the number of pot-bellied pigs each household may have.
